The essential services
Here’s what we do in our factory, whether you choose Complete Refurbishment or Clean, Polish, & Adjust:
• We disassemble and inspect each handbell
• We polish your castings
• We reassemble your handbells
• We adjust clapper assemblies for best performance
• We check each handbell for tuning accuracy
• We vacuum your cases and package each bell in a plastic bag for return to you
And that’s just the beginning. Because next you get to choose the refurbishment package that suits your bells best.
Complete Refurbishment
Choose Complete Refurbishment, and add these services…
• We install new handles, in your choice of all-black or black with gold braid
• We install new Master Touch™ Guardian Discs, again in your choice of all-black or black and gold
• We install new yoke assemblies and your choice of Select-A-Strike™ or Quick-Adjust™ clapper heads
In other words, Complete Refurbishment produces essentially a new handbell upon your original casting.
Clean, Polish & Adjust
Choose Clean, Polish, & Adjust, and we do the following in addition to the essential services above:
• After disassembling and inspecting your bells, we contact you with our service recommendations
• We replace all anti-friction washers, bumpers, stop nuts, handle lock-washers, and handle (cap) screws
• With your approval, we replace other necessary non-warranty parts; these charges are not included in the Clean, Polish, & Adjust refurbishment and will be billed in addition to our basic charges
New, Optional Polishing Method
We’re now offering an alternative polishing method--available whether you choose Complete Refurbishment or Clean, Polish, & Adjust. It significantly reduces the machining used in traditional polishing methods, substituting a more hands-on, less aggressive technique. We recommend it especially for sets that have already had several prior refurbishments.
The Optional Polishing Method costs an additional $50 per octave. We check all bells we receive, and we’ll notify you by phone if we think your bells would be better served with this method. Or you can choose it to begin with.
Caution:
Aggressive polishing methods used elsewhere may alter the tuning tolerances established by Schulmerich, which could in turn affect the sound of your bells and your warranty. We’ll never compromise the sound of your handbells in an effort to restore their original finish. This means that some severe blemishes--those whose removal would require excessive machining that could affect the bell’s pitch--may not be completely gone when we’re through. This is especially true of our gentler Optional Polishing Method.
